The Natural Menopause Method Cookbook Launch Event
So my cookbook is now in the wild! I do hope you are enjoying the recipes and enjoying cooking by symptom if you have a copy. The launch was a lovely evening in the company of many of my clients, friends and colleagues from the menopause space. What a wonderful community we have!
It seems apt that this year’s Menopause Awareness Month’s theme is Lifestyle Medicine. At last some positivity!! Usually themes are often focussed on the risk factors post menopause which, although important, are often quite negative as if we are all about to fall apart!! Lifestyle medicine includes our diet but also stress management, sleep and movement. And food is the bedrock. It helps us adapt to stress better (I mean who isn’t stressed???!), sleep better and it gives us more energy so we want to move more.
Lifestyle medicine gives us agency over the transition. Menopause is a time when the body is SCREAMING at us to make changes. It’s a wake up call and changes in our diet and lifestyle can give us much more control over the transition. There are things we can do – and they start by leaning into your kitchen!
It is inclusive – this month is also Breast Cancer Awareness Month and breast cancer thrivers often feel disenfranchised by the whole HRT being the solution to menopause conversation. It’s the medical solution, and not the only one! Lifestyle medicine can really help often brutal symptoms of menopause caused by post treatment medication.
It brings food back into focus. Food is often forgotten about as it’s often up against the bright and shiny wellness trends that grab our attention and promise us the world! But food has THE biggest amount of data proving it’s benefits for many menopausal symptoms and for longevity!
We can all make small sustainable shifts by changing up what is on our plate…and we can start today. Small steps can create a wonderful ripple effect which is where change happens. Not with a feeling of going without but with a sense of food as celebration!
It give us the chance to stop living in misalignment. To start nourishing ourselves and putting ourelves at the top of the to do list for once. Food becomes a radical act of self care and self nourishment too. It is the bedrock of lifestyle medicine!
If you want to try to make simple changes then do look at my books The Natural Menopause Method and the sister Cookbook where I talk a lot about how the food that we eat can help us feel less like a coiled spring, help us sleep better and want to move more. As well as how to break down barriers to cooking. I don’t want cooking to be a drain on our already time starved days, I want it to be an enjoyable and non negotiable part of it (well not everyday, but for the most part!!)….however much of a novice you might be in the kitchen. This is why my recipes are not weekend projects but realistic, nourishing home cook creations.
